Spotted
The Forest Raven is a large, entirely black corvid endemic to southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It is the only raven species found in Tasmania and is typically associated with forested habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to southeastern Australia (primarily coastal and montane forests) and Tasmania, inhabiting forests, woodlands, and adjacent agricultural areas.
How to spot
Look for a large, all-black raven, especially within forested landscapes. Its calls are deep, guttural 'korr-korr-korr' or 'gah-gah-gah', often lower pitched and more resonant than other Australian corvids. Its plumage often appears glossier.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day. Often seen flying over forests or foraging on the ground in clearings.
