Spotted
The Mountain Violetear is a vibrant, iridescent green hummingbird distinguished by its striking violet-blue ear patches. It is commonly found in highland areas, adapted to cooler montane environments.
Where to spot
Found in the highlands and montane regions from southern Mexico through Central America and across the Andes of South America to Bolivia and Argentina. It inhabits cloud forests, forest edges, and shrubby clearings.
How to spot
Look for it feeding at flowering shrubs and trees in montane habitats. Its iridescent green body and prominent violet ear patches are key identifiers. It often perches conspicuously and sings a buzzing song.
