The White-bellied Canary is a rather plain-looking canary, typically brownish-grey with a pale, whitish belly and some streaking on the back.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, particularly Kenya and Tanzania. It inhabits dry scrubland, semi-arid bushland, and open woodlands.
How to spot
Scan arid scrub and sparse bushland. Look for them foraging on the ground or in low bushes. Listen for their quiet, somewhat uninspired song.
When to spot
Visible year-round in its resident range. More active and vocal during the breeding season, which typically follows the rains.
