Spotted
The Bornean Magpie-Robin is a distinct island species, visually similar to other magpie-robins with its black and white coloration. It is a common sight in various habitats across Borneo.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Borneo, found in a range of habitats from lowland forest and forest edge to cultivated areas and urban gardens.
How to spot
Observe its typical magpie-robin behavior: foraging on the ground, perching conspicuously, and frequently flicking its tail. Its song is similar to other magpie-robins but with subtle differences that can be noted by experienced birders.
When to spot
Resident throughout the year. Like its relatives, it is most active and vocal during the breeding season, typically coinciding with local wet periods or food abundance.
Recently recognized as a full species separate from the Oriental Magpie-Robin, this bird showcases the high biodiversity and endemism found on the island of Borneo.
