Spotted
A newly recognized species of thrush, the Himalayan Forest Thrush is a shy and elusive bird inhabiting dense montane forests. It is known for its distinctive song, which helped differentiate it from its close relatives.
Where to spot
High-altitude coniferous and mixed forests in the eastern Himalayas, including parts of India, China, and Myanmar.
How to spot
Look in dense undergrowth of montane forests. Its cryptic plumage makes it hard to spot, so listening for its distinctive melodious song is often the best way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Most active during breeding season (spring/summer) when males sing. Early mornings and late evenings are best.
