The Great Thrush (*Turdus fuscater*) is a large, common, and conspicuous thrush of the Andes. Its plumage is uniformly dark, often sooty black, with a contrasting yellow bill and eye-ring, giving it a striking appearance.
Where to spot
Widespread throughout the Andes Mountains, from Venezuela south to Bolivia. It occupies various habitats including humid montane forests, páramo, agricultural areas, urban parks, and gardens.
How to spot
Easily identified by its large size, uniform dark plumage, and bright yellow bill and eye-ring. Look for it foraging on the ground or perching prominently in trees. Its loud, varied song is a common sound in Andean highlands.
When to spot
Resident year-round. It is active throughout the day, often seen foraging on lawns and open areas, especially during the breeding season when pairs are more prominent.
