Spotted
The Himalayan Snowcock is a large, impressive game bird inhabiting the desolate, high-altitude regions of the Himalayas and adjacent mountain ranges. Its camouflaged plumage helps it blend into its rocky, snowy environment.
Where to spot
Found in high-altitude alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and scree fields throughout the Himalayan range, from Afghanistan to western China.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, whistling calls echoing across the mountains. Use a spotting scope to scan distant slopes; they are often found near snow patches or rocky outcrops.
When to spot
Best observed in the early morning or late afternoon when they descend to feed. Summer offers the most accessible conditions for reaching their lofty habitats.

Despite their large size, Himalayan Snowcocks are incredibly agile on steep, rocky terrain, moving with surprising speed and grace across their treacherous mountain homes.
