The Red-rumped Swallow is a widespread swallow found across Southern Europe, Africa, and Asia. It is characterized by its rufous (reddish-brown) rump, striped underparts, and a rufous nuchal collar.
Where to spot
Open areas, grasslands, cultivated lands, and savannas, often near cliffs, buildings, or bridges for nesting. Found across Southern Europe, Africa, and Asia.
How to spot
Look for its diagnostic rufous rump, striped underparts, and rufous collar on the nape. Its long, deeply forked tail streamers are also characteristic. Observe its agile flight.
When to spot
Migratory in northern parts of its range (breeding in spring/summer, wintering in Africa/Asia); resident in tropical regions.
