The Greater Double-collared Sunbird is one of the larger and more robust double-collared sunbirds. Males feature brilliant iridescent green and blue with a broad red breast band.
Where to spot
Native to southern Africa, inhabiting a variety of habitats including fynbos, scrubland, gardens, and indigenous forests, often near coastal areas.
How to spot
Look for it around flowering plants, often perching prominently. Its bold colors are easy to identify. Listen for its loud, clear song that typically ends with a trill.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed in the breeding season when males are most colorful and vocal. Active through the day, but more conspicuous during morning and late afternoon feeding.
