The Great Iora is the largest of the Iora species, distributed across parts of mainland Southeast Asia. Males showcase a striking combination of deep black and bright yellow, with a prominent white wing-bar.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Southeast Asia, including Indochina, Thailand, and Myanmar, inhabiting forests and dense scrub.
How to spot
Identify by its larger size among ioras, the bold black and yellow plumage, and the distinctive white wing-bar. Listen for its rich, fluty calls, which are quite different from other Ioras.
When to spot
Active during the day, with males being particularly visible during the breeding season when performing displays.
