Spotted
The Common Iora is a small, vibrant passerine bird widely distributed across tropical Asia. Males are particularly striking with bright yellow and black plumage, while females are duller.
Where to spot
Widespread across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, found in forests, woodlands, gardens, and plantations.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive calls and varied songs. Look for its bright yellow plumage (especially the male) and active foraging among foliage, often hanging upside down. Its quick, darting movements can make it challenging to follow.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often heard more than seen. Best observed during the breeding season when males are more vocal and conspicuous.
