Spotted
A rather drab-looking cotinga compared to its colorful relatives, found in the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes. It is characterized by its dusky plumage with paler grey wing panels.
Where to spot
High-altitude humid montane and cloud forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Peru and Bolivia.
How to spot
Look in the mid-story and canopy of dense cloud forests. It is often heard more than seen. Listen for its distinctive, bell-like 'bong' calls, often given in a series.
When to spot
Resident throughout the year. Most vocal and active in the early morning.
