Where to spot

Primarily found in the high-altitude cloud forests and paramo edges of the Andes, specifically in Colombia and Ecuador. It prefers humid, temperate zones with abundant flowering plants.

How to spot

Look for its distinctive gorget, which can appear fiery orange-red, pinkish-purple, or even blue depending on the light and subspecies. Watch for its energetic feeding at various flowers and listen for its high-pitched calls.
