The Gorgeted Brilliant is a medium-sized hummingbird with sparkling green plumage and a distinctive iridescent blue-green gorget (throat patch) on the male. It prefers cloud forest habitats.
Where to spot
Inhabits humid montane forests and cloud forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes in southern Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru.
How to spot
Look for it feeding at a variety of flowering plants, often perching between visits. The male's iridescent gorget is a key identification feature, especially when seen in good light.
When to spot
Year-round. Active throughout the day, often more visible in the mornings when nectar flow is strong.
