Spotted
The Fulvous Wren is a robust, warm brown wren inhabiting the undergrowth of humid montane forests in South America. It is often challenging to observe due to its reclusive nature.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and cloud forests in the northern Andes, ranging from southern Colombia through Ecuador to northern Peru.
How to spot
Listen for its rich, bubbling songs and calls emanating from dense vegetation. Focus on areas with thick undergrowth, where it forages on or near the forest floor.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round. Most vocal and active during the early hours of the morning and late afternoon.
Despite its generally secretive behavior, the Fulvous Wren is known for its complex and varied vocal repertoire, often including duets between pairs.
