Where to spot
Found in humid montane and cloud forests at high elevations (typically 1,400 to 3,200 meters) in Costa Rica and western Panama.
How to spot
Look for it aggressively defending flower patches in forest clearings, along trails, or at hummingbird feeders. Its brilliant throat coloration is unmistakable.
When to spot
Present year-round, often more active at feeders or specific flowering plants during the cooler parts of the day, such as early mornings.
