Spotted
The Beautiful Hummingbird truly lives up to its name, exhibiting striking green and blue iridescence. It is a rare and highly localized species found in specific montane forest habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to the humid montane forests of the Talamanca Mountain Range in Costa Rica and western Panama.
How to spot
Observation is challenging due to its restricted range and preference for higher elevations. Look for its brilliant green plumage and distinct blue throat (males) as it feeds on flowers in dense cloud forests.
When to spot
Typically active during daylight hours, often seen feeding on the nectar of epiphytic flowers found high in the forest canopy.
