The Choco Trogon is a beautiful bird with iridescent green upperparts, a vibrant red belly, and a plain, dark tail. It is endemic to the humid Chocó bioregion of western Colombia and Ecuador.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Chocó biogeographical region, inhabiting humid lowland and foothill forests along the Pacific slopes of western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador.
How to spot
Listen for its soft, low hooting calls. Look for it perched quietly in the mid-story of dense rainforests. Patience and a keen eye are necessary for spotting it.
When to spot
Diurnal, active during the day, though often inconspicuous.
This species was recently split from the Black-tailed Trogon due to distinct vocalizations and subtle plumage differences, highlighting regional biodiversity.
