The Dabbene's Guan is a large cracid found in the high-altitude forests of the Andes. It is recognized by its generally dark plumage and is often encountered in dense cloud forest habitats.
Where to spot
Restricted to humid montane forests and cloud forests in the eastern Andes of southern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina.
How to spot
Requires patient observation in dense forest. Listen for its distinctive hooting or gobbling calls. Look for it foraging on fruits in the sub-canopy and canopy.
When to spot
Most active in the early morning and late afternoon, but can be observed throughout the day. Present year-round in its mountainous habitat.
This guan is one of the highest-dwelling species in its genus, adapting to the cooler and often misty conditions of montane cloud forests.
