Endemic to the Atlantic Forest, primarily found in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo in southeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and canopy for its dark body and listen for its calls. Identifying the chestnut belly can be challenging in poor light but is the key diagnostic feature.
When to spot
Best observed during early morning and late afternoon activity peaks. It is a resident bird, observable year-round.
