Spotted
The Four-colored Flowerpecker is a strikingly colorful flowerpecker, living up to its name with four distinct colors: a glossy black back, white underparts, a bright red breast patch, and a yellow rump. It is a rare and elusive forest dweller.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Sulu Archipelago in the southern Philippines, primarily found in lowland forests.
How to spot
Requires dedicated searching in its very specific and often difficult-to-access island habitats. Look high in fruiting trees and listen for its calls, if known.
When to spot
Observable year-round, but due to its rarity and restricted range, sightings can be challenging at any time. Best efforts in the morning.
