Spotted
A very small, slender warbler with sandy-brown upperparts, a pale supercilium, and finely streaked underparts. It has a relatively long tail.
Where to spot
Dry acacia scrub, semi-arid plains, and thornbush in the Sahel region of Africa, from Mauritania to Sudan.
How to spot
Listen intently for its 'cricket-like' song, which is often the only way to detect this tiny, inconspicuous bird in its dense, thorny habitat. It is often very difficult to see.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season (often the wet season).

The Cricket Warbler gets its name from its distinctive, insect-like song, which often sounds like a prolonged, high-pitched cricket chirping, making it hard to distinguish from actual insects.
