Spotted
A small, long-tailed warbler with a plain rufous-brown crown, streaky greyish-brown back, and a pale, finely streaked throat and breast.
Where to spot
Dry scrubland, arid riverbeds, and dense bush in the Nama Karoo and Succulent Karoo biomes of South Africa and southern Namibia.
How to spot
Look for its rufous cap and streaked underparts. It often forages low in dense bushes. Listen for its distinctive, somewhat buzzy and rattling song, which helps locate it in the thickets.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season (austral spring/summer).
