Where to spot
Widespread across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Inhabits dry scrubland, open bushy areas, arid plains, and semi-desert habitats.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often repeated, 'chuck-chuck-chuck' or 'pip-pip' calls. Look for groups of brown birds foraging on the ground or in low thorny bushes. Its long tail and ground-dwelling habits are good indicators.

Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Often observed in small, noisy groups.
