Brewster's Brown Booby is a distinct subspecies or population of the widespread Brown Booby, primarily found in the eastern Pacific. It shares the overall dark brown upperparts and white belly but has a characteristic pattern on its breast.
Where to spot
Found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, breeding on islands off the coasts of Baja California, Mexico, and in the Gulf of California. Disperses along the coast of California and further south.
How to spot
Look for its dark brown upperparts and distinctively patterned white belly, often with a brownish band across the breast. Observe its relatively shallow plunge-dives for fish and squid. Often seen perched on buoys, rocks, or ships at sea.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round in its eastern Pacific range, especially near breeding colonies. Breeding typically occurs during the spring and summer months.
