The Chestnut-throated Flycatcher is a distinctive species endemic to the island of New Caledonia. It is characterized by its blue-grey upperparts and a rufous or chestnut throat and breast.
Where to spot
Endemic to New Caledonia, found in primary and secondary forests, particularly in humid evergreen forests.
How to spot
Look for its blue-grey back and contrasting chestnut throat and breast. Scan the mid-story and undergrowth. Listen for its distinctive, often whistling calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often more easily detected by sound or during active foraging.
This species' unique combination of colors makes it a beautiful and easily identifiable bird of the New Caledonian forests.
