Where to spot
Miombo woodlands and associated dry forests in Central and Southern Africa, including Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often repeated 'wip-wip-wip' call. Scan the canopy of miombo trees for this rather dull-colored barbet with a striped head.
When to spot
Year-round; often heard calling throughout the day, especially in the early morning.
Miombo barbets are important members of the miombo woodland ecosystem, foraging for fruits and insects, and often contributing to seed dispersal.
