Cassin's Woodpecker is a medium-sized species with classic black and white woodpecker markings, including a ladder-barred back and a red hindcrown in males. It often prefers open forest habitats.
Where to spot
Inhabits open woodlands, mixed forests, and riparian areas in parts of western North America, extending south into Mexico.
