Spotted
The Carrizal Seedeater is a critically endangered and extremely rare species, known only from a tiny area in Venezuela. Males are dark blue, similar to other Amaurospiza seedeaters.
Where to spot
Known only from a very specific area in the Sierra de Perijá, Zulia state, Venezuela, inhabiting bamboo thickets within montane cloud forest.
How to spot
Observation is exceptionally challenging due to its critically endangered status, tiny range, and preference for dense bamboo. Access to its habitat is limited. This is a species for dedicated researchers or highly specialized birding expeditions.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round, but extremely difficult to find due to its rarity and restricted habitat.
This species was only formally described in 2000 and is known from a single location, making it one of the most range-restricted and threatened birds in the world.
