Spotted
The Yellow-green Grosbeak is a robust and distinctive species with striking yellow-green plumage and a strong, conical bill. It is found in the humid lowland forests of northern South America.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests of the Guianan Shield (Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana) and northern Brazil.
How to spot
Look in the mid-story to canopy of humid primary or mature secondary forests. They can be found in small flocks. Listen for their loud, somewhat burry calls and rich song.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round in its range. Early mornings are best for activity.
Like other grosbeaks, this species' powerful bill allows it to crack open tough seeds and fruits, and it also feeds on insects.
