Spotted
The Buff-spotted Flufftail is a small, elusive bird of African forests and dense woodlands. Its camouflaged plumage helps it blend seamlessly into the undergrowth, making it a challenging species to spot.
Where to spot
Dense forest undergrowth, thickets, and woodland edges in sub-Saharan Africa.
How to spot
Search in dense, shaded vegetation. Listen for its distinctive 'hoot-hoot-hoot' call. Standing still for extended periods in suitable habitat increases the chance of a fleeting glimpse.
When to spot
Can be active throughout the day but is most vocal and possibly more active at dawn and dusk. Breeding season (rainy season) is best for hearing calls.
