The Buff-breasted Buttonquail is a rare and poorly known species of buttonquail endemic to Queensland, Australia. It is characterized by a buff wash on its underparts.
Where to spot
Endemic to a restricted area in northern Queensland, Australia, primarily in tussock grasslands and open woodlands.
How to spot
Exceptionally difficult to find due to its rarity and secretive nature. Listen for calls that might be similar to other buttonquails. Any observation requires extreme patience and luck.
When to spot
Extremely rare to observe. Any sighting would likely be opportunistic. Requires dedicated survey efforts, often during the wet season.
This species is critically endangered, known from very few recent sightings, making it one of Australia's most elusive and threatened birds.
