Spotted
Worcester's Buttonquail is a poorly known and possibly extinct species of buttonquail endemic to Luzon in the Philippines. Very few records exist, making it one of the most enigmatic birds.
Where to spot
Possibly extinct. Known only from historical specimens collected on Luzon Island in the Philippines, likely from grasslands or open scrub.
How to spot
Possibly extinct. If still present, would require extensive searching in suitable grassland habitats on Luzon, listening for calls similar to other buttonquails.
When to spot
Possibly extinct. No confirmed sightings in many decades. Any observation would be extremely significant.
This species is so rarely seen that it is sometimes referred to as the 'invisible buttonquail', and some ornithologists question if it might be an aberrant form of another species.
