Endemic to the humid montane forests and cloud forests of the Central Andes in Colombia, primarily in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, and Tolima.
How to spot
Listen intently for its unique hooting calls. Spotting this antpitta requires immense patience and quiet observation on the forest floor, as it remains well-hidden in dense undergrowth. Stakeouts at local feeders, if available, can offer views.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during the early morning hours, especially at dawn. It is present year-round within its restricted, high-altitude range.
