Spotted
The Bright-rumped Yellow Finch is a vibrant species of the high Andes, characterized by its intensely yellow rump, which often appears brighter than the rest of its plumage.
Where to spot
High-altitude puna and paramo grasslands, agricultural lands, and open areas of the Andes from Colombia south to northern Chile and Argentina, typically between 2,500 and 4,500 meters.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow rump, especially noticeable when perched or in flight. It often forages on the ground. Listen for its distinctive chirping calls within flocks.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Flocks are more easily spotted in non-breeding months. Best observed during daylight hours.
