Where to spot
Dry and semi-deciduous forests and scrub, particularly along the Pacific slope of Costa Rica and western Panama.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'tew-tew-tew' call. Scan the dense thorny undergrowth. They are often found in pairs and can be quite shy.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon, especially during the breeding season.
This species is part of a taxonomically complex group, with its exact relationships and distinctions from similar antshrikes still being studied by ornithologists.
