The Dusky-tailed Antwren is a small, rather drab antwren with a relatively long, dusky tail, found in the understory of montane forests. It's often heard before it's seen due to its vocalizations.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and cloud forests, typically in the understory and mid-story, across parts of the Andes (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru).
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic high-pitched trills and rapid chattering calls. Patiently scan the dense foliage and vine tangles in the understory. Often joins mixed-species flocks.

Resident year-round. Most active and vocal in the early morning. Can be found throughout the day moving through foliage.
