Where to spot
Confined to the wet tropical rainforests of northeastern Queensland, Australia, primarily in montane areas and high-altitude forests.
How to spot
Due to its secretive nature, it's often easier to hear than see. Listen for its mournful, whistling calls. Look for its dull olive-brown plumage and pale throat, typically foraging low in the undergrowth.
When to spot
Year-round resident. It is most active and vocal in the early mornings and late afternoons, especially during the breeding season.
