The Northern Slaty Antshrike is a widespread species, with males exhibiting uniform slate-grey plumage. It is a common denizen of the understory of humid tropical forests.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth of humid lowland and foothill evergreen forests, secondary growth, and forest edges, across much of Central America and northern South America (e.g., Honduras to Venezuela).
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'whew-whew-whew' or 'tew-tew-tew' call. Scan the dense understory and watch for movement. Often found in pairs.

Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are frequent, especially during the breeding season.
