The Blue-crowned Trogon is a vibrant and widespread species of trogon found across much of South America. Males are particularly striking with their iridescent blue-green head and upperparts, a white breast band, and a bright red belly.

Broadly distributed across South America, from Colombia and Venezuela south to Paraguay and northern Argentina. Inhabits humid and semi-humid forests, woodlands, and gallery forests.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and understory for its characteristic upright posture. The male's brilliant blue-green head and red belly are key identifiers. Listen for its series of soft, mournful 'coo-coo-coo' calls, which can be quite distinctive.
