Where to spot
Found on islands in the Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Islands. Inhabits forest edges, clearings, gardens, and secondary growth, often near human disturbance.
How to spot
Look for it feeding on grass seeds or small fruits in open areas at the forest edge. Its vibrant blue cap can make it quite distinctive, especially in good light.
When to spot
Can be seen year-round. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon when foraging activity is highest.
Like other parrotfinches, the Blue-capped Parrotfinch has a strong, conical bill adapted for cracking tough seeds.
