The Black-chested Jay is a colorful and social New World jay found in Central America and northern South America. It is characterized by its black chest contrasting with blue and white plumage.
Where to spot
Found in a variety of wooded habitats, including dry forests, humid forests, and cultivated areas, from Costa Rica to northern Colombia and Venezuela.
How to spot
Look for its striking black chest, blue crown and back, and white underparts. Listen for its loud, varied calls and chattering. It is often conspicuous and bold.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, typically seen in noisy groups foraging in trees.
