Where to spot
Ranges from northeast India through northern Myanmar, northern Thailand, Laos, and southern China. Inhabits dense broadleaf evergreen forests, especially with bamboo, at mid-elevations.
How to spot
Look for its prominent black eyebrow stripe. It typically has a pale bill and a plain brown body. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense undergrowth. Listen for its high-pitched, metallic calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. More vocal during the breeding season (spring-summer).
