Spotted
The Bimaculated Lark is a large, sturdy lark typically found in steppe and rocky habitats. It is characterized by two distinct dark patches on its breast, which give it its common name.
Where to spot
Breeds in grasslands, steppes, and rocky semi-deserts from Turkey through Central Asia. Winters in parts of the Middle East and northeastern Africa.
How to spot
Identify by its relatively large size, heavy build, and the two prominent dark spots on its chest. It has a rather plain, streaky brown plumage. Listen for its rich, varied song, often incorporating imitations, delivered from the ground or in flight.
When to spot
Primarily observed during the breeding season (spring to late summer) in its breeding grounds. Migratory movements occur in spring and autumn, with wintering observations in specific regions.

The 'bimaculated' part of its name directly refers to the two noticeable dark spots on its upper breast, a key identification feature for this species.
