How to spot
Listen for its distinctive series of short, barking hoots. Use a spotlight to scan the sparse canopy and scrub, as it can be well-hidden despite the open habitat.
When to spot
Nocturnal. Most active and vocal from dusk onwards, particularly during the breeding season when calling for mates.
