The Pale Rockfinch is a unique passerine bird found in arid and semi-arid rocky habitats across the Middle East and Central Asia. Its pale plumage provides excellent camouflage against rocks and sand.

Middle East (e.g., Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Arabian Peninsula) and Central Asia. Found in dry, rocky deserts, wadis, and stony plains with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Look for its pale, sandy-brown plumage and short, stout bill. It often perches on rocks or low bushes and forages on the ground. Its calls are distinctive, often a dry, rattling sound.

Migratory in parts of its range, breeding in spring/summer and moving to warmer areas in winter. Resident in some southern areas.
