A stunning and uniquely plumaged hummingbird, the Hooded Visorbearer is instantly recognizable by its iridescent green 'hood' and chest, contrasted with a sparkling blue or violet gorget. It is a rare gem of Brazilian campos rupestres.
Where to spot
Endemic to the campos rupestres (rocky grasslands) and cerrado biome of southeastern Brazil, particularly in Minas Gerais. Prefers areas with flowering shrubs and rocky outcrops.
How to spot
Seek out areas with suitable habitat – rocky, open grasslands with scattered shrubs. Look for its brilliant iridescent patches flashing in the sunlight. It often perches prominently on exposed branches.

Year-round. Most active during the flowering season of its preferred plants, typically in the morning and late afternoon.
