Where to spot
Open woodlands, melaleuca swamps, mangroves, and gardens in tropical northern Australia and southern New Guinea.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow plumage as it moves through the canopy or visits flowering trees. Listen for its distinctive, cheerful 'chick-up' or 'sweet-sweet' calls.
When to spot
Active year-round, particularly vocal during the breeding season. Best observed in the mornings.
Despite its bright coloration, it can be surprisingly well camouflaged among the yellow and green foliage it inhabits, especially when still.
