Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland and foothill forests from Honduras to northern Colombia and western Ecuador.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often throaty vocalizations. Patience is key, as they are notoriously skulking. Focus on deep leaf litter and look for subtle movements.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during early morning and late afternoon.
This species is highly terrestrial and often walks rather than hops, resembling a small rail as it moves through the leaf litter.
