Spotted
The White-tailed Blue Flycatcher is an attractive species found in East Africa, characterized by its deep blue plumage and striking white outer tail feathers. It inhabits montane forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Albertine Rift mountains of East Africa, found in montane and bamboo forests at higher elevations.
How to spot
Scan the mid to upper canopy of montane forests. Look for its blue plumage and white tail flashes, especially when it takes flight. Listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day, particularly early mornings when light is good for spotting its colors.
This flycatcher often forages by hovering momentarily at the end of branches to glean insects, a technique that allows it to access prey inaccessible to other birds.
